備忘録(統計的仮説検定への批判)
心理学研究法についての調べごとをしていたら、院生時代にNHST(null hypothesis significant testing)への批判について発表した際の資料が出てきたので、備忘録的に書いておく。(発表タイトル:Evolving and Social-Rhetorical Nature of Validation)
同等の貢献をしたという理由で、コイントスで著者の順番が決められたCronbach & Meehl(1955)で広く知られるPaul E. Meehlの建設的批判である。
“I suggest to you that Sir Ronald (Fisher) has befuddled us, mesmerized us, and led us down the primrose path. I believe that the almost universal reliance on merely refuting the null hypothesis as the standard method for corroborating substantive theories in the soft area is a terrible mistake, is basically unsound, poor scientific strategy, and one of the worst things that ever happened in the history of psychology” (Meehl, 1978, p. 817).
